CAMP DIRECTOR'S NEWSLETTER

"Don't be afraid," Jesus said.  "Take courage, I am here."
Then Peter called to Him, "LORD, if it's really you, tell me to come to you , WALKING ON THE WATER."
"Yes come," Jesus said.

Matthew 14:27-29 (NLT)

Just a few more weeks until camp!!!!  Boy, before you know it, you'll be packing the car and heading off to Long Point Park and Shiloh Adventure Camp 2008.

All the preparations for camp are in full gear now.  We're finalizing the program, curriculum and activities.

If you haven't noticed, we updated and posted the 2008 Activities Page with all kinds of neat and fun things we have planned for you.

We've made plans for campers to visit the brand new Barrier Island Environmental Center.  Our visit includes interactive displays about wildlife and their natural habits, a nature movie, and a nature hike.  See their website at:
http://cccturtle.org/barrierislandcenter.php

In particular - check out our plans for the two 'SPECIAL EXCURSIONS' we just added to our plans.  Now these will cost a little extra, but, they're well worth it.  You can sign-up for these excursions as you register, or just call me at (321) 452-3943.  But, you must sign-up soon!!!

The first 'special excursion' is a Turtle Nesting Night Hike offered by the environmental center.  Campers (and Parents who join us) will go to the center around 8:45 at night and awaiting the spotting of a sea turtle setting up her nest.  Quietly they'll be taken to watch her lay her eggs - a God wonderous experience!  The cost is $10 per person, but availabilty if very limited (on a first come first serve basis) -- so get your parents to call us today (321) 452-3943.   See more info about sea turtles at their website. http://cccturtle.org/sea-turtle-information.php

The second 'special excursion' is a combination Snorkeling trip and visit to the McLarty Treasure Museum at Sebastian Inlet State Park.  The cost is $5 per person (if you use your own snorkeling equipment - highly recommended) or $15 including renting snorkeling equipment.   After we have campers go through 'swimmers checks', we'll give them basic instruction on snorkeling at teh camp 'lagoon' swimming hole.  (Non-swimmers will not be able to go snorkeling, but may wade knee-high at the Cove 'Tidal Pools'.)  While there at the State Park, we'll also visit the McLarty Treasure Museum which includes interactive displays of the 1715 Spanish Fleet that sank right off the Florida east coast.  See more info at:
 http://www.floridastateparks.org/sebastianinlet/Info.cfm

Parents who are able are encouraged to join us for any of these off-camp excursions -- which will help us 'shaparone' our kids.  Please call for arrangements (321) 452-3943.

Now kids!  Remember you need to help your parents pay your way to camp.  And we've set things up to help you do just that.  See our Fundraiser Page for details of how you can earn $100 or more towards your tuition and a chance to win a brand new surfboard.  By selling tickets for a chance at a 4-Day Carribean Cruise you'll help yourself and Shiloh.  Not to mention some blessed person will remember you for a very long time....   Parents please call our Executive Chairman, Doug Brown (321) 799-4199 to make arrangement to recieve the tickets to sell.

Just can't wait 'til camp!!!  It's going to be a blast.  So, until then, remember to keep focused on Jesus, so that if he asks you to get out of your boat and 'walk on water', you're ready to go!!!!

We're sure 2008 will be a summer camp memory that will last for a lifetime!  See you at camp!

Yours in Christ,

Lou Larsen
